It's Coney! Of course it's good! Hanis, cheese fries, coney dogs...yum! This location is fast, mostly friendly, and very clean! I say mostly friendly because whenever I order a carry-out, when I walk in and stand at the register the workers never acknowledge me.....very awkward. That's also the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5...just say hi or tell me someone will be right with me or anything at all!!

I ordered carry-out for work. Once I opened up the food, it looked as though the Hani was dropped on the floor and put into the carry-out box. It had hair and other fur-type things on it.

A standby for us. They understand what "well done" fries mean. Wait staff is very friendly. Great selection including breakfast all day. Really good desserts -- love the chocolate cream pie. My husband says the coneys are the best in town and the buns are always really fresh and the chili is full flavored but not too spicy.

This is a really clean and professional Coney Island that has your typical Coney food (Coney dogs, burgers, Hani's, chili cheese fries, etc.) and solid breakfast items like omelets. You walk in, order and your food arrives five minutes later. It's convenient if you're on the go or just want some greasy comfort food on a Saturday morning when you are hungover. BUT (there's usually always a "but," isn't there?) either I am getting older, cheaper or am just turning into a big old curmudgeon when it comes to prices I pay to dine out. It's kind of laughable that two Hani's-and-fries combos cost over $16. Yeah, yeah, inflation. It's just kind of funny that a beef gyro costs less than a pita with chicken, lettuce, tomato and mayo. Just an observation. Anyhow, you can't ever really go wrong with any Coney location. It's a Michigan staple at this point and people keep coming back for more. So will I.

IMHO, this location is the best of the chain. Always fast, always clean, always good. If you need your coney or Hani fix and it's not last call, this joint is your best bet. One caveat- avoid on early dismissal days as it's full of SCS & GP students.

You can literally never go wrong with National Coney Island. Everything on the menu is great, the prices can't be beat, and the cooks are extremely quick and efficient. I'll go here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner any day of the week. Thanks for 20 years of great food (and counting).

Stopped in because we craved coney's and they are not available in SC. We were not disappointed. Had a fully loaded coney and fries, baby Greek salad, and kids nugget and fries. Everything was exceptional. Food came quick an the service was good too. I like how we were able to seat ourselves. The place was clean and the AC blew well and cooled us off on a fairly warm day. I would recommend this location.

I called in an order and when I came to pick it up I heard the server mimicking me and the way I ordered. Also I asked for double lava cake and the idiot just gave me 2 full separate orders. Immature idiots.

If you're a Detroiter (metro or otherwise) this is where you love the Coney dogs, chili fries and just about anything else they serve. The sodas taste awesome, awesome when it hits the lips and don't get me started on their delicious breakfasts. Clean, spacious and typically busy. The service could use some improvements as sometimes employees are avoiding helping me. And you can always get carry-out, but typically really good food.

Definitely one if the better Nationals in the area. Great waitresses and I've never had to return food here. Good breakfast, burgers, and "hani's". Pretty clean here and not a bad demographic of customers.

Yes I am actually giving a solid 5 star to a National Coney Island. Picked up my daughter from the airport at 7:45 am today 9.1.11 , she says Hello Ronald & then "I'm hungry " So my original plan was to surprise her with Motz Burgers , Millers Bar Burger, American or Lafayette Coney Island, however none opened until 9am.So then the choice was down to the National @696 & Gratiot , or this one on Harper. ________________________________________________________ Walked in at 8:20 and were promptly welcomed with 3- 4 hellos, sat down & Pauline "Burst" onto the scene [once you meet her you'll agree with the adjective] She took both of our orders & they food arrived very fast.!! Pauline is one of those servers, who make you glad you came in, efficient, kind, caring ,charming & a quick wit, and never ever stops smiling. A++ I ordered the Gyro Omelet with Feta & Greek Sauce cooked to absolute perfection A+ Renee ordered the Farmers Omelet , hashed browns, toast & cream cheese A And the manager George Dallas , happened to stop by on his day off & came by the table & said HI! [ George has served coneys on the eastside at several locations for 20+ years] It was a very good visit!

We've missed having a National Coney close to us. This one delivers in service and taste. Who can say no to a spicy Hanni? Delicious. The staff is super friendly, they walked out two elderly ladies and carried their food for them to the car. The first rate. Have to treat the old ones right :)

I never appreciated how good I had it on the East Side until I had a sub par Coney at Dix Coney Island in Allen Park. National is the bomb. Great chili, quality hot dogs, fresh chopped raw onion and mustard in a steamed bun make for a great Coney. Don't miss out on the Hani either which is a pita sandwhich that has chicken breast, melted american cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo and I'll always add bacon. It's great grilled or fried. The trick is to get a coney and half a Hani and skip the fries. I have been to a few of the National Coney Island locations but this place treats you like family. When I went there last Friday to treat my Dad to a Sanders Hot Fudge Sundae (which is awesome of course, as well as the Hot Fudge Cream Puff), Ashley our favorite waitress was just leaving but took the time to say hi and give my Dad a hug. Pauline manages the waitresses and does an awesome job. Always a smile on her face. If you're ever on the east side stop by.

My sister makes a bee line to National Coney Island then later to Cloverleaf when she's back in town. This particular location is kind of new (nowadays for me new can mean it's been built in the last 15 years) I've had some issues in the past like the buns being slightly stale or the hot dogs were skinless. I imagine a few scenarios why this was the case: Maybe they received the wrong dogs, they were trying out the skinless, the skinless were cheaper, they ran out of the dogs with skin, maybe there was skin but I just couldn't tell, I don't know. None of the above has been the case for the past couple of years. It's been pretty darn good. I consider National the standard for coney's. The best I've had has been Lafayette or American downtown. Recently I was here to take advantage of a coupon I had and got 2 coney's and chili cheese fries. Sometimes I hate Michigan but not while I'm eating this. Cons: Chili w/ beans this last time tasted like it was on a warmer too long. You know that taste when you cook spaghetti sauce or chili too long? Anyways, I was hungry and I wolfed it down anyway. Comments: There are a lot of employees that bustle around in a semi-small area. Bus boys slam and bang doors & dishes, waitresses rush around, everyone is working hard. Every time I go in there it's like this it seems, it's part of the ambiance. This place gets good business as well as the 696 & Gratiot location - .25 stars overcooked tasting chili. + 4 stars everything else = 3.75 Stars

Last place I would pick for food. Would rather eat the day old sandwiches at the Meijer deli counter.

I grew up always goin to Coney on Gratiot and 696, especially after the bar and it was great. Now, especially since I moved to Detroit, we go to this Coney and WOW what a difference! The food here is great! We usually go in the evening or late evening and always get great service, on the rare occasions that we have gone for lunch we ended up with younger waitresses that had other priorities other than us and possibly her other customers I don't know. All the of the older waitresses in there are great! Also its filled with families, elderly couples, and single customers a majority of the time, unlike the other Coney with all the loud and obnoxious trashy teenagers that are Roseville's Finest! And then anytime after midnight expect a drunkin brawl.
